Established in 2012 on Main Street in Historic downtown Littleton, Altitude Paddleboards was the first dedicated SUP retail location to open in Colorado. Our store is close to premier South Metro flat water and moving water SUP locales at Chatfield State Park, Bear Creek Lake Park and the South Platte River.
How did we get here?
John (JB) and Nancy’s partnership in the pursuit of water sports began in 1983 where they met as rafting guides on the Trinity River in Humboldt County, California. They proceeded to become “weekend kayak warriors” both in Humboldt County and the San Francisco Bay area. Over several years, they boated nearly all of the Sierra rivers while developing surfing skills in Santa Cruz when the river flows got too low. Vacations included kayaking trips to rivers in Oregon, Idaho, Montana and down the Grand Canyon. In 1992 a move to Oahu, Hawaii ushered in an 11-year experience of the beach life where they raised their two daughters and logged in serious water time surfing the reef breaks of Oahu and the outer islands. A move back to the “mainland” in 2003 landed the couple in the Denver Metro area just prior to the emergence of the modern derivation of SUP that since 2004 has grown to become one the most accessible and rapidly growing water sports in the world. Stand Up Paddleboarding proved to be a perfect business for the couple to share of their love for both kayaking and surfing through a new sport that is far more accessible.
